Pi Mai Lao, Lao New Year, Luang Prabang, Laos

This incredible festival is one of the worlds biggest water-fights! For a week the whole of the country goes mad and celebrates the Buddhist new year by drenching each other in vast amounts of water! The Lao people are usually somewhat restrained abut during this festival they become wild and uninhibited.

There is a traditional, religious aspect to the festival too. Hundreds of monks walk around town on their morning alms round, and there are processions of Buddha images through the town. It is a vibrant and unique time to be in the country.
