Uzbekistan is a varied and historic country. Boasting some of the most evocative cities in Central Asia: Samarkand, Khiva and Bukhara, which originated in the days when warring Emirates fought each other from impenetrable fortresses and even launched attacks on other countries. The Mughals who invaded Northern India originated from the city of Samarkand. Uzbekistan was also a part of the old Soviet Union, and so the exquisite Islamic architecture is found next to brutalist Soviet buildings. Amongst all of this, live some of the most friendly and welcoming people you will find anywhere in Asia.
